Unique early cast iron knob. Open fretwork on face allows viewing of decorative polished brass insert. Note also the decorative brass band around the mid-section. L-13300 is actually a very interesting knob. It was patented on May 31, 1870, just before the large group of MCCCo knobs on Jun 7, 1870. This knob was given patent number 103,749, issued to one George Jones, Peekskill, NY. (Reissued number 8743 June 10, 1879). The patent referred to the method of making the knob in two halves, the front half being open fretwork, so as to allow for viewing of a colored inner piece, which in this case was polished brass. Note also the decorative brass band around the mid-section. Note the central screw in the middle of the face, used to hold the whole thing together.
