The Supervising Architects office at the United States Treasury designed and/or built most Federal buildings in the United States between 1850 and 1940. Some buildings featured the Treasury Department seal on doorknobs. This style was used in the 1856 Custom House in Mobile, Alabama which was designed by Ammi B. Young. Fortunately the contractor building the new bank building on the site saved a few of the doorknobs. Click on each photo below to view additional images and information.
